It had been professionally restored by the previous owner. The condition of this boat is excellent. It has always been stored inside and both motors fogged in the fall each season and lower units drained and filled with new oil. The 40 horse Yamaha only has about 20 hours on it. The 4 horse Yamaha trolling motor has under 5 hours on it and is basically new. Both are long shaft 2 stroke. I've only had time to take it out a couple times each season, which is why I have decided to sell it. The boat runs flawlessly. It's hard to describe how a wooden boat handles, but it's a wonderful feeling out on the water. It handles rough water very well for a 14 foot and I've been out by rabbit island a few times with it. It tops out at about 28-30 mph. I have had it up and down the Portage Canal and lake a number of times and it's an idea pleasure boat. Morgaine is a 17overall centerboard sloop constructed by a professional cabinetmaker. It was designed by S.S. Rabl and it appeared in Boatbuilding in Your Own Backyard (Cornell Maritime Press). Its design was altered by a naval architect to be gaff rigged with a bowsprit and carry both a working jib and a Genoa. It has a sizeable cabin. Frames are of white oak as is the small flat bottom portion of the hull. Transom is solid mahogany. The hull is strip-built of quarter-sawn Catskill Mountain white pine. The edges were run through convex and concave shapers to accommodate hull curvature without gaps. The deck is also pine strip. Margin, coaming and king planking are mahogany. All assembly was done with marine epoxy or resorcinol resin. The hull is entirely covered with fiberglass and has acrylic marine paint above the waterline and antifouling coverage below. The interior is covered with multiple coats of clear marine epoxy. Rigging was done by Brooklin Boat Yard. Tanbark sails include a large Genoa and were crafted by a sailmaker also in Brooklin.
